Panzer Officer - Help w/ ID

Hi all, I recently acquired a Panzer officer's visor from a fellow collector in Germany. The veteran's surname is "WEDLER." On the nametag, it also looks like it is followed by what looks like GO (or am I reading the sutterlin wrong?), not sure if these are his first and middle initial as well? His unit 4/Komp. is also written. Does anyone have a rank list or some sort of method they've used to locate a panzer officer?

Any help is greatly appreciated, as my countless attempts at locating some info on this officer have failed so far.

You might want to hire one of the NARA researchers to trawl through the officers lists for you, you should have enough info in order to pinpoint your man. All I can say is he wasn't a pre-war officer and wasn't a regular officer with the rank of major or above in june 44, also if we're to assume Go. is an abbreviation for his first name then he isn't on the volksbund list.
Collecting German award documents, other paperwork and photos relating to Norway and Finland.

Also, Does anyone know of a specific source to research panzer officers?

This will be a difficult project Brian. I think even a NARA research effort would be difficult without more information.

I would use a Google alert to see if this name pops up anywhere. You might be able to track down some of his other items down the road.

Adam, thanks for the advice. I am assuming you've been through similar processes in the past?

I have scoured Google and come across many Wedlers, but none that fit the bill for this vet.

I would not be surprised if he was a company grade officer - the wear to the cap is consistent with solid field use. I need to post in the cloth headgear forum tonight.

Ps Adam I know I owe you an email
