    Very interesting. I have a soldbuch for a gefreiter form the cadre personnel (Stammpersonal). However, he was wounded in June 1944 and would be of no use to your story.

      I have a Wehrpass to an Unteroffizier who served first with 2./ & then Stab/Feldstraf.Gefangenen Abt.14 from November 1943 to wars end.

          It is not mentioned in the Wehrpass, but in one of the archival files, it is written that he was charged with "gemeinsamer Fahnenflucht", which means communal desertion. It is very likely that all the others who were caught as well were brought for the Standgericht and executed together with Ballauf.
