Hi all, a wehrpass I purchased a while ago which was opened in 1936 and details backdated to 1930, of a Policeman who joined the 31st Infantry Regiment and killed in Russia in 1942, the clerk then very briefly penciled in details of his units from 1936 to his death. The units noted in the wehrpass were the Gestapo and a unit associated with Einsatzgruppe D. To be honest I`ve never been particularly happy with the penciled in details, but the wehrpass was bought from a reputable dealer. I decided to approach "Deutsche Dienststelle" through the internet to ask for the details they had on him about 2 months ago, in an attempt to alleviate the doubts I had about those penciled in entries, and I duly received info in the mail this morning. It would appear that the pencilled in units are correct but I can find no reference to "Einsatzkommando Diedenhofen" can anyone shed any light on this unit? Thanks in advance.

Diedenhofen is a town in Alsace-Lorraine. Could 'Diedenhofen' be a sort of code for 'D'? On the other hand I did find references to Einsatzgruppe Lothringen as well as other named Einsatzgruppen - and there was an Einsatzgruppe L (attached to 6 SS Panzer Armee for the Ardennes offensive). I didn't realise Einsatzgruppen existed after 1942.
Incidentally, while this one has turned out okay and Malcolm is a good bloke I wouldn't just accept the 'reputable source' when it comes to verifying any WP\SB entries. Malcolm's (and Gordons source as well) have had their fair share of fake entries finding a way through over the years. A small proportion for sure but the suppliers are less than vigilant.
Cheers,
Gary.
