    Hi Miraul,

You can't tell for sure from this type of disc- it means 2. Stammkompanie Grenadier-Ersatz-Bataillon 71 (2nd Root Company Grenadier Replacement Battalion 71). According to the reference I have, Grenadier-Ersatz-Bataillon 71 supplied replacement troops to Grenadier-Regiment (motoriziert) 71, which was part of the 29. Infanterie-Division. However, looking at where the 29. Infanterie-Division fought, it seems unlikely that's the Division in which this soldier served. I can tell you that he joined the army after 15.10.1942 because before that date discs would have been marked Infanterie-Ersatz-Bataillon 71.

No problem Miraul- I'm happy to help

If he was found near the Oder, then I don't think it's likely this soldier was in the 29. Infanterie-Divison; after its reformation in March of 1943 in France, and its redesignation as the 29. Panzergrenadier-Division, they fought exclusively in Italy.

I looked at your other post with the quarter disc reading 'A. L. H. ...', but I haven't come up with anything that fits those letters. I don't see how Lazarett fits as the L although it's as much a possibility as anything else at this point.
