    Tracing my father's unit

    Hi Ian

My father died last year and he was a member of the Galician division in the German army like so many Ukrainians.
What my question to you is how can i find out exactly what unit or division number he was serving under.
I have enclosed a photo of the front and back of a document i found amongst his possesions.
I was wondering if there were any records kept of personnel who were enlisted into the Galician division.

    many thanks

    Ivan

The main site for requesting German records is the Deutsches Dienststelle. You can do a request but do not expect full records unless you are family member!

    Theres also the Bundesarchiv:

The German War Graves Commission can be found here:

    Maybe the Deutsches Rotes Kreuz:

    Hi Ivan,

Sorry I misunderstood you when you said "I have enclosed a photo of the front and back of a document i found amongst his possesions".
You tried to post this image?...I can now see 3 images that are not shown for some reason....I will post them below...

Anyway, I would contact the Deutsches Dienststelle, there is an English page if your German is not too good. Include all that you know about him, name, date and place of birth etc. There is a box for extra info, mention that you know he was in the Galician Division and you would like to know more....

Ensure you put your relationship in the box provided or you might not get much info!!!
For military career they most probably will photocopy pages from Tessin regarding your father's units, Divisions etc....it might cost €30 +.

If you have any info already post it here and I/we will try and help.

    Regards, Ian
