                  100 Km west of Stalingrad!

On 08.08.1942 the North front line was over 90-100 Km west of Stalingrad!

Dealing with the place name Schirkowski I found this:

                    Oblast Smolensk, Cholm-Schirkowski rajon

The exact text (page 32, last entry) in the Wehrpass is:

"17.8.42 - 8.8.42 Angriffsschlacht auf Stalingrad". The dates are a contradiction because the

printed text says that the battle started 17.8.42 but our guy was already KIA 8.8.42. This date

which was added by hand. I think your soldier was killed in the time of the final preparations of

the "Schlacht von Stalingrad" which officially started later than 8.8.42.
