    JG 27 pilot

Received this soldbuch of Siegfried Schwob , only award is the silver wound badge.
With 1/JG 27 for a few months and then wounded.

Some other paperwork, I missed out on, from the group showed a post war description on an identity card saying he'd lost a leg and some burns on his arm and neck if I remember correctly.

Any extra info on him would be greatly appreciated

(anyone have Priens work on JG 27, maybe he is mentioned ?)

    Regards
    Greg

From what I can gather 1/JG 27 was based at Rheine when Siegfried was wounded.

Siegrieds wound badge document is dated 10.12.44.

On this day (Eighth Air Force ops)

173 B-24s hit the marshalling yard at Bingen. Escorting are 287 P-47s and P-51

277 B-17s hit the Lutzel marshalling yard at Koblenz. Escorting are 226 P-47s and P-51s.

Possibly Siegfried was wounded in this action.

If you don't get the answer here then you might want to post your question on the 12 O'Clock High Forum as someone will no doubt have information for operations that day and maybe the loss details for JG-27. While he may well of been wounded in air combat (I'd say the burns would point to this) there is always the chance he could of been wounded while on the ground during a low level strafing run by Allied fighters.

            Hi Hofstetter,

In the book "Jagdgeschwader 27, Dokumentation über den Einstaz an allen Fronten", Siegfried Schwob is mentioned as an air loss : member of 3.Staffel, I./JG27, on 10.12.1944 in Reichsgebiet verwundet.
It seems that he had no victory claims, but that is all for this pilot in the book, sorry.

            Regards
