Young Man Killed in Action 6-6-44

A soldbuch carried by Erich Sandmann attached to the 352 Infantry Division. When the D-Day invasion started he was with the Field Replacement Battalion of the division.

Not many entries in soldbuch, no awards, home leaves, hospital stays. Last date is a vaccination May 1944.

I am not sure of his units' position on 6-6-44, the HQ was between Lison and Bayeux. The FEB352 might have fought independently against the airlandings occuring in the area or used in the counterattack against the beaches.

Regardless of his cause of death, the youth shown in his photo came to an abrupt end on that famous day.

Very interesting Soldbuch to someone who died on an important day in history.
He looks a bit Asian to me, don't you think?

First time I have seen a photo of a young German soldier with acne (pimples).

                Thanks for the comments.

I do like this soldbuch. I had 5 great uncles fight in the war, one in the Pacific and four in Europe. One was killed and buried in France, two others came ashore on Omaha and Utah beaches on the morning of 6-6-44.

This soldbuch was not brought back by them.

His hair color in the photo is black and in the soldbuch described as Dark Blond.

His death isn't documented in the soldbuch.
