      Hello Barry,

The holder of this Soldbuch, German of Ukraine, was incorporated into a particular unit as indicated in the first document presented below. In the date of its wound, this unit did not still exist. This fighter was a member of one of the first units of volunteers title : Frw. volksdtsch. Schwadron. No location of its unit during its wound but considering date and the nature of its unit very certainly in the sector of Heeresgruppe Süd.

He was seriously injured December 2nd, 1942 and has of this fact directly decorated with the badge Verwundetenabzeichen in Silber on April 29th, 1943. Always further to this grave first wound, he was decorated with the badge Verwundetenabzeichen in Gold on October 18th, 1944. His wound was to be important because this soldier was hospitalized until April, 1945.

The second document presented below indicates the important nature of this wound. Wound by shrapnel on the right-hand side of the forehead with loss of the right eye.

      Cordial greetings.

      Polux

Thanks for posting the photos polux. Not only did he lose an eye, but he suffered brain damage from the shrapnel as well.
