    Afrika Korps, Italy Flak Wehrpaß

I picked up this interesting Wehrpass yesterday at the flea market of a Flak soldier who was in north Africa, wounded and then in Italy. What is interesting are the aircraft listing which were shot down to qualify for the Flak badge, many of which were Spitfires and Thunderbolts. Pages 1 to 3.

notation that he was in Africa from 21 July, 1942 through 25 Janauary, 1943 and listing of shoot-down entries (first one is a Mustang and the next 3 are Lightnings!). The next two pages list 6 Spitfires, 3 Thunderbolts, 1 Typhoonand a "Kittyhawk" all being shot down in Italy and listing the time and location.

the last page listing 2 "Kittyhawks" and two Thunderbolts shot down over Rimini and Cesena. This soldier was killed on 9 April, 1945 by a bomb hit and a letter from his former Zugführer is also with the group.

              Great WP.
Did you find it at the 2 days flea market at the "Dultplatz" in Regensburg?

That is the first time I have seen downed aircraft entered in a passbook. That is really a neat Wehrpaß. Congrats.

Jeff, the flea markets are not always that good, but this time it was. Edward, I have seen a seperate listing of shoot-downs, but also never one in the Wehrpass. I found it interesting that "points" were given for each shoot-down and this shows that the Flak badge did require some heavy action to be awarded. Alessio, those are the best finds!
