    Help for traduction

    Hello all,

Can anyone help me for the identification and traduction of the first sentence in purple on this picture ? It's a soldbuch of a Marine Artillerie Obermaat from Festung Saint Nazaire.
The signature is from the M.A.Oberleutnant Meyer, commander 3/M.A.A.280, M.K.B. "Behncke" (Fort de l'Eve).

    Thanks in advance.

I read " In Ermangelung eines offenen Dienststempels " in the absence of an (open) official seal

I would decipher the scripture like:

"In Ermangelung eines offiziellen Dienststempels "!

That means , the signer had no official seal and used another stamp which was not really correct for use here.

Translation: " For want of an official service seal !"

To be honest, I don't see the "e l l " necessary for "offiziellen" (or the "z" for that matter).

"offenen" seems to be more plausible.

It's offenen because by this date, the military was to use an open address in Soldbücher and not the Feldpostnummer (that's why you see so many FPN's inked over). This, of course was not always followed, as the regulation is a bit confusing.
