    Soldbuch 91 (LL) Div and 711. ID

    I juat found this set of documents to Gefreiter Johann Osmer

    Osmer served with the 1. / Grenader Regiment 1056 - 91. (Luftlande) Division in the Cotentin peninsula where the 82. and 101. Airborne dropped early in the morning of 6. June.

    After his regiment, along with most of the 91. ID was destroyed - Osmer, surving the battle and avoiding being surrounded and destroyed around Cherbourg, Osmer then served with Grenadier Regimenter 731 and 765 of the 711. ID which also suffered heavily in Normandie.

    On 29. 10. 1944, Osmer was struck by grenade schrapnel in the right upper arm for which he later received the Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz on 22.11. 1944 before the division transferred to Hungary in an attempt to break the encirlement of Budapest.

      Osmer was issused a K08 along with a P o8 sidearm.

        Though Osmer was consider to be not very athletic (Körperliches Streben: mangelhaft) during his school years, he survived the battles in France, Holland and later Hungary.

        After the war he was considered to be 30% disabled due to the war time injuries.

              There is a lot more in this lot, (27 pcs) but only a few relating to his war service.

              With the issue of a rifle and a pistole...could be have been a MG Schütze, I wonder?

                  Not sure to be honest! Predominately 4, 8 and 12 Companies were MG Kompanien.

                  Incidentally wasn't Gren.Rgt. 1056 part of 89 Inf.Div. instead of 91 (LL) Inf.Div? I'm a little confused over that at the moment.......as it appears to have been foremd fro 91 ID but was under 89 ID! Either way both in Normandy.

                    That's right.

                    He received a reissued rifle and the P 08 for the first time in Feb 1945 in Hungary. Maybe a Melder or a Driver?

                    As the the GR 1056...difficult to say. I now find conflicting information...

                    As you say - still in Normandie...

                    Here is something interesting....on the other side of the Soldbuch foto...there is a foto studio stamp from .....Olso! Strange!

                      Interesting.....Gren.Ers.Btl. 469 was in Radersleben, Denmark and transferred to Itzehoe November 1942. When the unit was split into Ersatz and Ausbildungs Btlen. the Ausb.Btl. transferred to Aalborg, Brovst then coastal protection around Ringköbing again in Denmark....perhaps he went on a short vacation or course to Oslo?

                            About wound date : it seems to be 29 august and not october, isn't it ? So it was not at the same place... He was then member of GR 731.
