And Max has known the Italy only for three months, he has survived to Croce but not to the last American offensive of October 1944 when Clark tried to encircle the German divisions on the Gothic Line.... He falls October 25th 1944 at Ripiano, near Castel San Pietro Terme about 25 miles south of Bologna ...

... But there is another very interesting chapter of the story of Max in Italy ... a month before his regiment the 290 Gren Reg. was called urgently to a special place where the front had just been broken by the Americans (The Blue Devil) and teh Italian partisans of Binconcini .... Montebattaglia......
              (always Gereis)...

Very nicely presented Mufasa. Agree, nice uniform of Behr in RAD uniform wearing musician swallowtails.

On the battle of Monte Battaglia with some good photos. The US 88th Blue Devil Division had a very good combat record in Italy. They were also the first US division made up of all drafted personnel sent into combat.

Thanks for showing the photo of the plaque to the 350th INF Mufasa. This battle was the most fierce fight of the war for the 2nd Battalion of the 350th. The commander of of Company G, Captain Roeder US Army was awarded the Medal of Honor for this fight. The account of this battle figures prominently in the 88th INF Divisions history as well. From the battle for Monte Battaglia the Regiments knickname became 'Battle Mountain'.
