Flugzeugführerschein

Hello all.

I have a flugzeugfuehrerschein and I was wondering what information is it supposed to contain. It doesn't seem to list anything about the aircraft the holder was licensed to fly, in fact, it holds very little information at all. Is there anywhere that has information on the license so that I could understand it better?

Hi Rich,

Some hold a load of info...........some do not! Page 1 and 2 should hold personal details, date of issue, a photo and the issuing unit. Also on page 2 subsequent units and promotions may be added. Page 3 may have additional aircraft flown.
It covered the basic license A/B which basically were single engined aircraft, fighters, recce etc.
The advanced license covered twin engined and heavier aircraft.
Then you have different levels of blind flying (instrument) licenses depending on basic training, night fighters etc.

By the sound of things it could be a A/B license only.

Got one in front of me.....

Page 4-5 is the basic license (A/B)
Page 6-7 is the advanced license (C)
Page 8-9 is the seaplane license (A/B)
Page 10-11 is the advanced seaplane license (C)
Page 12-13 blind flying license class I and II
Page 14-15 Blind flying instructors license with the lower part aircraft flown for blind flying.

There no doubt will be a website somewhere that details what aircraft fit into which category for A, B and C.

At a quick glance, Class A was fighter aircraft, class B was training and outdated aircraft and class C was transport and bomber aircraft (multiple engine).

Thanks guys. From what you have described it looks like he was a type B pilot. So he had a license but was not combat. I'll get a few pics together in a day or two just to confirm.

There's a couple of good books I have upstairs that cover training, locations etc. of aircrew....will check them out later and verify exact aircraft types.
They were broken down even further A1, A2, B1, B2 etc...

I find it interesting that this guy was a qualified pilot yet did not belong to a flight unit. Would this be because he was a specialist in another field?

Hi Rich,

I know this one.....it has been split up from other documents, however the FP Nr. pretty much details his units:

FP Nr. 23562 - Flieger-Kompanie, Luftnachrichten-Regiment 5.

He was qualified with the flying license (A and B training), advanced license (C training), Blind flying license I and II.

Was it basically single engine but non-combat? Trainers, etc?

The break down of aircraft is as follows:

A Aircraft:

A 1: Upto 500 Kg flying weight, one or two-seater, single engine
A 2: Upto 1000 Kg flying weight, one to three-seater, single engine

B Aircraft:

B 1: Upto 2500 Kg flying weight, one to three-seater, single engine
B 2: Upto 5000 Kg flying weight, over three seats, single or double engine

C Aircraft:

C: Over 5000 Kg flying weight, over three seats, two or more engines.


After completion of A1, A2 and B1 training and examination you qualified for you Pilots license - Luftwaffenflugzeugführerschein (Land) - LF
After completion of B2 and C training and examination you qualified for you Advanced Pilots license - Erweiteter Luftwaffenflugzeugführerschein (Land) - ELF

I will see if I can find a simple a/c type for weight etc. however your guy had the license to pretty much fly anything including Me 109, Ju 52, He 111 and equivalents. However with the unit he was with I would expect he flew Ju 52.....

No, I haven't bought it because the grouping is now scattered. I see Thomas Huss has several docs to this guy but as I don't know what the grouping consisted of originally I don't see the point in buying a loose document not knowing what was originally available.

If I remember correctly from what Thomas had it was the license, Spange, Wound Badge? and possibly a promotion document.
He had it as a group prior to you buying the license.
