    1939 Polizei Danzig related Soldbuch

This soldbuch belonged to a member of Landes Polizei Regt. II Danzig in 1939. I am guessing he took part in the start of the war in Danzig.

Note the erkennungsmarke entered and the Landes Polizei Danzig stamp.

Also of interest is that he had a stay on the hospital ship "Wilhelm Gustloff". The ship that had a very tragic ending in 1945.

From 1941 through 1943 he was part of Pz Gr Rgt 128, 23Pz Div.

      Interesting entries Lee,

He must have been wounded later on as there is the typical pencilled FP Nr. entry on page 1 which is normally related to an associatiated wound.

      FP Nr. 34820
(2.1.1940-27.4.1940) bevollmächtigter Kommissar z.b.V. 1 beim Chef des Transportwesens,
      (1.10.1940-27.2.1941) gestrichen,
      (30.7.1941-28.2.1942) Stab u. 1.-3. Kompanie Feldersatz-Bataillon 128 d. 23. Panzer-Division,
      (12.3.1943-7.9.1943) Stab u. 1.-4. Kompanie Feldersatz-Bataillon 128 d. 23. Panzer-Division dann Stab u. 1.-4. Kompanie Feldersatz-Bataillon 128.

Was he also at one point a member of Inf.Rgt. 244? This was formed from Landespolizei Regiment 2, part of 60 Inf.Div.

Yes he was wounded in late 1943.

He was not part of I.R.244 but was I.E.B. 60 (mot).

Thought I would bring this back up.

The Heer soldbuch was opened by the Danzig Police on the 10th of August, 1939.

He most likely saw or heard the first shots fired on the opening day of the war in Europe.

Didn't notice that before when I looked at this thread however he appears to have been wounded or escaped Danzig aboard the "Wilhelm Gustloff"....a Hospital Ship in Danzig 1939.....the ship was sunk there 30.1.1945.

He appears to have been in Reserve Lazarett 1, Danzig also in October. Are there entries for this on page 12-13?

Note: Reading it again you already pointed that out about "WG"

                    Thanks,

Ian I will have to dig this one out today and look through it again.

Didn't see the 75th anniversary mentioned so...

Ian, he was aboard the WG Oct. through Dec. 1939. The entry says something like "boeingastrous"? I can't scan it, another page is glued over pages 12-13.

He also suffered from Malaria with several stays in the hospital. In October 1943, he has a "feigning illness" code, three weeks in the hospital. March 1944, suffered a schrapnal wound being hospitalized through November.

On page 14 is Korps Tagesbefshl LXIV AK Nr.7 Ziff 2 vom 8/3/45, 12 twelve days later he was wounded by schrapnal again and stayed in the hospital.

On an earlier post, I wrote I.E.B. 60, it should have read I.E.B. 120 (mot). I have his second dogtag that matches the new entry on page 1.
