    Panzer-Lehr Soldbuch grouping

I just received this grouping and before i sell it (as it does not fit my collection) i wanted to show it and ask some questions about it.

This guy was allready with Lehr unit(s) in the end of 1941/early 1942.
What did they do? train at a kazerne?
or did they saw action before the Panzer-Lehr-Division was created in 1944?

This guy survived the Normandie campaign and Ardennes campaign (he got some sort of disease at the time that the Division was around Bastonge).
I think that he was captured in the Ruhr pocket, as there are some 1945 entries and he has a POW number.

    He was in:
    Lehr-Regiment 901 (III.Pz.Jg. Btl.).
    Panzer-Lehr-Regiment 130
    Pz.Jg.Lehr-Abt. 130
    Pz.Pionier-Lehr-Btl. 130

Unfortunately the photo on the inside has been removed.
But there is a portrait photo of him with the grouping (with text on the back that proves its him).
What would be a fair price for this grouping?

Nice soldbuch - Panzer & Infanterie Lehr Rgts did indeed see combat before the Panzer Lehr Division was formed. They were training units but due to the high skill set of the instructors and staff they were used in the front line at times - the push to Moscow in 1941 being one example.
Here is some information on Lehr Rgt 901 (mot.)... http://www.axishistory.com/index.php?id=9685

            Lehr

            Rick,
The Lehr units/formations were "schoolhouse" elements for training soldiers. They existed well before the formation of the Panzer-Lehr-Division. The division was formed from cadre from these elements and subsequently campaigned in Normandy and the Ardennes.
That's an attractive grouping, but I would be reluctant to say how much it might be worth, since I do not really collect "paper."
            Regards,
            Bob

              Nice group Rick.

Lehr units were used in combat well before Normandy. I have a Wehrpaß to a guy who was with the Artillery-Lehr-Regiment. From the entries in the passbook they were present during Barbarrossa, and during the seige of Sevastopol. Awarded EK II, EK I, Sturmabzeichen, Krim Schild, Ost Medal, and Black Wound Badge. He was later KIA outside of Mga when Russian troops overran Lehr battery encampments during an early morning attack to break the seige of Lenningrad (this specific action is mentioned in Carrel's book, Scorched Earth).

For assistance in valuation did he also receive any awards?

                Thanks guys!
                He went to the easternfront.
As he was in III./Pz.Lehr.Rgt in Germany, and that bataillon got used to make up the III (Pz.Jg.) bataillon of Lehr-Regiment 901.
Both units are noted on page 4, and i can see other entries of them in the SB.

Edward, no i cannot see any awards in the Soldbuch.
I have no idea what his function could have been..
He was trained in a Pz.Jg. Ersatz unit though.

Looks like he was transfered around quite a bit between various Lehr units! Ending up in 1943-44 with the Pz Pioneer Lehr Battalion . Interesting that he did not earn any awards when considering the field units assigned to. Although he was assigned to 3./Pz-Pioneer-Lehr Battalion I am not certain he went into combat with them. It is very possible he did, but maybe he was just posted to one of the support vehicles assigned to each company for just such purposes as a driver?

No idea what he could have been.
He was issued rifles and pistols according to the (extra inserted) page 8a.

At the time Pz.Lehr were around Bastogne he was admitted into a Lazarett with Tonsillitis (Wound Code '3')!

                        Yes.
I think, but i would have to read the Division´s history, that they were just pulled back for refitting around that date.

From 12.1.1942 - 3.2.1942 he had a health problem called "Nabelbruch" - umbilical hernia.

Therefore he was in the Reserve-Lazarett Wünsdorf.
