    Ss erkennungsmarke

Here is a SS ID disc from my collection. It is stamped for a Instandsetzung Abt. in the SS-Pz.Gren.Div. 11 "NORDLAND". It shows moderate corrosion, and the fonts have been colored to make it more readable. IMO, it is a good tag, but I would appreciate any comments from more experienced ID disc collectors to confirm the authenticity of this dog tag. The obverse side has no markings, as the blood group & stammrollennummer are stamped on the front.

    Best regards,

    Tom

It doesn't look good to me
I had several authentic SS -Inst. Abt. 11 tags from Meckl-Vorpommern area which were stamped with the same abbreviation but totally different typeface. I don't like the blood group stamping either.
I have onr of these in my collection and may post a picture.
Just give me a couple days.

        Ss i a 11 dog tag

Thanks for your comments about the dog tag, Al. I appreciate your expertise about this ID disc. I wasn't sure about it, and I had no original examples to compare it with, so I wanted to get the advice of a collector with more knowledge about it than me. I would really like to see a pic of an original SS I A 11 disc. I'm going to post another Nordland Div. dog tag later today that I would like to show to other dog tag collectors for their experienced opinions. Thanks again!!!

        Best regards,

        Tom

          Ss/i a 11 dog tag

Thanks for the photo of the original SS I. A. 11 dog tag, Al. I'm sure that my dog tag from that unit is bogus!!! It's never easy to find out that you have a "bad" piece in your collection, but that's the price that I have to pay in some cases. It's a hard way to learn about a hobby, but, I've been doing it for 20+ years now, so I just have to bite the bullet, and get a refund. Thanks again for your help concerning this dog tag.

          Best regards,

          Tom

You're so right, Al, about asking questions & doing a bit of research before spending hard-earned dollars on questionable items. If you have a chance, can you take a look at the dog tag posted on my other recent thread, concerning the authenticity of the SS-Nordland Div. tag. I would appreciate it very much. Thanks for your help!!!

              Best regards,

              Tom

                Hi again,
I checked the other tag and can't say much. Unfortunately I don't have any reference in this case. The problem with most of the Nordland div. tags is that they are stamped with very generic, crude typeface.
Finding a reference tag is the only way to verify the authentity.
