    Fw-190 Ground Attack Pilot Grouping

The latest addition to my collection: A Wehrpass, Flugzeugfuhrerschein & Citations grouping to Leutnant Claus Peters, a Fw-190 pilot with the ground attack wing SG-1, flying with 5./SG 1 from April 1944 to April 1945 and then 6./SG 1 for the final month of the war. As well as the Fw-190 he was also trained to fly various versions of the Ju-87 as well as numerous other types.
As well as the Pilots Badge Peters was also awarded the EK II (25th Aug 1944), EK I (2nd April 1945) and the Ground Attack Clasp In Silver & Gold. The entry for the latter seems to of been squeezed in on the Awards page of the WP, possibly by Peters himself, but a post war newspaper article confirms the award (marked here with an arrow.) Unfortunately the clasp citations are missing form the group.
According to the Campaign page of the WP he flew sorties during the Battle Of Berlin.

Post war Claus Peters seems to of gone into politics with the F.D.P (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_De..._%28Germany%29) before dying aged 81 on 18th August 2003.

              Hucks,

That is a very nice pilot grouping you are showing us here on WAF.
I see that he did first fly with the Ju 87, but I like his period flying with the Focke-Wulf 190 - "the butcher bird".

Know that flying in the Pommeria - Berlin area at the end of the war wasn't a healthy job as the sky was loaded with allied aircraft.

              Thanks for showing.

              yours friendly

Very nice Hucks! SG1 were the boys at the end who tried in vain to stop
the Russians on the Oder and in Berlin. Many fine men were lost in this
late battles including Oakleaves holder Kaubisch.

Some units did not covert from the Stuka until late 1944.

I read somewhere a Gruppe of SG1 managed to escape with all their
aircraft as the airfield was being overrun by Russians and surrended
                undefeated in the Hamburg area.

The EK1 looks like a Von Greim signature.

It is indeed, and just a a few weeks later he replaced Goering as head of the Luftwaffe after he had flown to Hitler's bunker.
I like to assume that the EK I was awarded for attacks on the bridges over the Oder but the truth is that it could of been for any number of ground attack sorties.

Thanks for the comments guys. Originally I only bought the citations & Flugzeugfuhrerschein but I then received an email from the dealer asking if I also wanted his WP that he hadn't gotten round to posting and not wanting to split the set up I was only to pleased to buy that as well.

Incidentally the signature against the awards in Wehrpass is that of Hauptmann u. Staffelkapitän Fritz Breit DKiG.

Thanks Ian. I didn't think they would be around for long so didn't waste any time to snap them up.

Can anyone identify who the Staffelkapitan is who has signed the awards page? I am assuming that he is from 6./SG 1 but it could possibly be from the 5 Staffel.
