    An Unsual Soldbuch AK related?

I've had this item for several years and a recent aquisition prompted me to pull it out. I recently picked up an item where the person who was issued it, signed by making a "X" as this person could not write. This is another example of this, only his thumb print is used. One would wonder on how effective this would be in the field?

I am assuming that this fellow would be used for labour as opposed to combat?

Does anyone have any info on this unit or thoughts in general on this book?

    Cheers
    Bill

            Bill:

            Bizarre.

The fingerprint would indeed indicate illiteracy (as does the "x" you mentioned)......The double Dieckmann validation / clarification on page 2 is also noteworthy, as is the soldiers name (clearly Arabic or Islamic in nature), religion and Ort / Kreis.

Considering my area of specialization, I cannot help you out in regards to this fellows unit history, but I'm sure there are others out there who can....hopefully those people will join in this thread....

              Very interesting.....

Battaillon Marokko (Marocco) was indeed in Afrika/Tunisia and was part of the DEUTSCH-ARABISCHE legions, however given the date it was after the demise of the Deutsches Afrika Korps.......will need to dig around a bit to find out more info.

Also, it's signed by a Feldwebel. They are supposed to be signed by an officer.

This is all I can find at the moment:

                  Stab/Bataillon Marokko
Deutsch-Arabische Truppen, formed summer 1943 with Feldpost.
                  Under: Panzer-AOK 5

                  FP Nr. 41066
(12.3.1943-7.9.1943) Stab Bataillon Marokko, cancelled (Tunisia)

                    Thanks Ian,

Any help is greatly appreciated! Looks like he was sworn in (pg 1) Feb7/43.

Again I assume for labour only no weapon issued although two ammo pouches issued?

                    Cheers
