I have a German ID disk with the following stamp:

ST. KP. J. E. B. 492

From what l little I know is this the 492 Infantry Regiment? If so, what division did the unit belong to?

In my search engine research I haven't been able to find anything on this unit.

No, its the Stamm. kompanie of Infanterie Ersatz Battailon 492.
Ersatz means replacements.
There is only one way to find out in which unit this soldier fought, and that is to ask the WASt (organisation).
But as non-family member its almost impossible.
