Friedrich Rein, who served on U-106, served on another U-Boat (I can't rmember which, but his commander was a Knight's Cross recipient) and was killed in action while serving with an anti-tank unit in 1945. Notice the home-made cover and how it is blood-soaked as are the pages of the Soldbuch.

                      Barry,

those two U 378 Soldbücher are something really special, two friends and you have both their booklets.
That contact with Otto's sister and the photo of the two friend together is so great.
Thanks you for sharing this piece of Uboat history with us here on WAF.

                      Michal,

No new information for you of course but :
Hans Beck left U 383 at the right time, as she was sunk August 1 1943, only to be killed later on U 317, same fate as his U 383 comrades, being sunk with all hands by an aircraft.

But I thought that U 317 only made 2 very short patrols and not 4.

                      Barry again,

Wow, nice collection of your other UBoat Soldbücher.

Same story for you, no new information for you that I write here.

Göttel did got away with it two times, he was 1 of the 19 survivors after U 272 did sunk after a collision with U 634, see that most of the ones that were killed were below deck machine personal.
He was lucky again when U 575 was sunk and he was 1 of the 37 survivors.

Buthge was a long time crewmember on U68 under Merten, great to see that you also have his DKiG file card, he received his DKiG on April 9, one day before U 68 was sunk on April 10, there was only one survivor, Hans Kastrup.

U 188 lost the battle against 8 Avenger aircraft, there were 16 survivors.

U 106 was another Uboat with a long history and many ships sunk, Rein was one of the lucky survivors when U 106 was sunk, 22 dead and 36 survivors.
I hope that you will remember his other Uboat number again.

Gentlemen, thank you for showing your UBoat booklets.

                      yours friendly

A very nice and interesting thread which is worth to be read from the beginning to the end. Unfortunately I don't have any U-Boot WPs / SBs and never had one but it seems they are quite rare as they don't show up not very often.

                              Regards
