My last trip to Germany 02

After my new CCC group here what appears to be a less interesting Soldbuch, he also just raise to the rank of Gefreiter.

But look that he run out of luck just so close to the end............. Breslau was his last battle and where he lost his youg life.

He enlisted with just 17 years and I think he received the visit of some HJ and Waffen SS trying to persuade him to join the new Hitlerjugend division and looks like he refused..........

He was not a highly decorated soldier and, probably due his age, not often sent to the frontline, but he was a brave one, when he faced the enemy he did what was expected to do and had his day of glory.

Look that he received an special leave due his actions.

          Hi Angel,

As we talked about it last Sunday, two awards (one rare one) for one action, for a simple Funker who did run into some serious trouble.

          yours friendly

            Angel,
Another nice one. You are lucky to be able to get back to Germany!

Yes and still other three groups to show plus a wonderfull M36 Infantry NCO tunic and some medals and, the most important, I have met several other collectors and see wonderfull pieces. I can not wait to be there again in November for the Kassel show.

                Very nice Angel,

I particularly like the 20 days leave for knocking out a tank!!!

He was actually killed near Zobten (now Sobótka) which is 30 Km south-west of Breslau.

                /Ian

Thanks Ian, I am also very happy with this entry more if we think it was late in the war when all man was in need at the front, a way to keep morale high and reward these acts of bravery.

In the more human side a young KIA just two days before all ends.....

Nice catch Angel. Interesting unit assignment on page 3, Pz Jgd. Kdo. 359. Would be interesting to know what PAK's they were using.

He was definitely involved in very heavy fighting going on during the initial defense fought just outside of Breslau and was presented with both awards only 3 days before Marshall Konev's encirclement of the city on Feb 14th. It is a given that in all probability his awards were for knocking out a Russian tank with a Panzerfaust. Two days after he went on leave the 269th was the only division to successfully break out of the city.
