    Hello

    It is a Volkssturm unit.

Should be looking like this one:

Could be stamped on a normal dogtag with 3 slots, too.

    Best regards, Fronti

This unit was a so called Bau-Bataillon (Construction Bataillon) it was raised of Volkssturm men in march 1945 and used in Danzig.

I don't think it is that unit as it is a Marsch Bataillon or Transfer Battalion normally transferring reserves to the front.
XX/VIII would indicate the Wehrkreis that it serviced.

It was named Bau Bataillon XX/XVI on 18.03.1945. Maybe before this date it was named Marsch Btl XX/VIII (V). Roman numerals were always used to indicate the wehkreis and so it was maybe formed from Marsch Btl XX/VIII (Volkssturm) to Bau Bataillon XX/XVI. They kept the number, but renamed it to make the usage of this unit clear.
So I think we hat a Volkssturmbataillon, which was transfered to the Heer and then send (transfered/marched) to Danzig (therefore namend Marsch Bataillon XX/VIII(V)) and there reformed to Bau Bataillon XX/XVI.
This could be a possible explanation.

Deutsche Wehrmacht - this is the same as on Volkssturm armbands.
Actually Danzig tags are bit different than all other Volkssturm tags as they have DW instead of DV on them. I have a full set of all 10 bataillons on DW tags. Some are marked Marsch Bataillon (V), Some Bau Bataillon(V) and some zbV Bataillon (V). Standard DV Gau coded tags from Danzig also exist and are often stamped on DW blanks. I will try to make some scans and share here.
              Regards
              Al

                Here we go:
                1. Standard tags - note some bataillons are marked both Bau and Marsch.

And some more - please note the rusty one - "Bataillon XII" - not mentioned by Tessin (there is also a "non existing" Batl XI on previous picture). The other tags are all Westpreussen Volkssturm tags in different versions - Gruppe Marienburg, A standard Gau-coded Volkssturm tag and a scarce Volkssturm Hitlerjugend platoon (37) tag.
                  Enjoy!
