    Greetings from Poltava

A nice trio from Poltava area, Ukraine. For sure these were lost during the fight in 1943 by the inter alia 1st, 2nd or 3rd SS Pz. Divisions.

Dogtags broken in half are generally taken from dead bodies or graves.

Sorry but I have to say it - that's rubbish. For me these are stereotypes. I've got a lot of the top halfs aswell as botton and you won't gonna tell me that all of them come from grave becouse dogtags broken in half are generally taken from dead bodies or graves.

My good friend found in past month more then 100 tags in small piece of ground. Many of them were broken into 2 or more parts. So all them or even just a little come from grave? Please..

I'll be honest I don't know circumstances of the situation in what the tags were extracted so I can't say much but for sure not every german WWII dogtag half come from same source.

Listen mate wasn't having a go just answering your question. I do not collect dogtags but if i would i wouldn't be wanting ones broken in half. The possibility maybe that they were taken from a war grave and they may have come from another source, ie if half stayed with the corpse the other half back to the unit. Anyhow thats a personal opinion.

Sounds more like suggestion. That's all I wanted to say.

                  Dog tags in Ukraine

My wife is Ukrainian. Once we were travelling by train from Kiev to Warsaw, Poland. On the border, border guard soldiers offered me German dogtags for sale. He said, that they found a wartime German military cemetery and they took those dags from the dead bodies. He said that openly, like nothing was wrong with it. I wasn't interested, but this is how they accuire a lot of the stuff they sell.

i never buy those, but thats just me...

mostly its because that those that were offred to me all came from graves in Eastern Europe.

So i understand why people get upset when they see them.

                          Daniel.
