New to Soldbuch - some advice

    Hello all,

Im partially new to soldbuches, although ive collected documents and photos now and then.

Concerning the soldbuch, in particular SS solbuch, how much do these go for? And what are the factors that determine the prices of this document?

    Condition?
Soldbuch Holder (whether he was an KC holder? etc)
Holder's Unit? (does this count? what are the more prestigious units?)

An example that im discussing as a potential buyer - http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=229082

Dave - the deal is sealed, so no worries.
    Thanks all.

I will try to give you my own opinion. Of course Soldbuch Holder is a very important point like for all the other part of the Wehrmacht. But KC or DKG holder are more rare in the Waffen-SS than in the Heer !
About the Holder's Unit, I think is more complexe. In the Waffen-SS some unit are very rare ("Skanderbeg", "Galizien" etc), some very prestigious ("LAH", "Das Reich") and some very mithic ("Charlemagne", "Dirlewanger" etc). So, it should be not to difficult to find some "Totenkopf" but before to have a 29. Waffen-Grenadier-Div. der SS Soldbuch you will wait a little bite more.....

To answer this question completely is impossible. Maybe if everyone adds a little to the answer, we will get the big picture ...

Some things are obvious, interesting units make it more expensive, awards as well. A nice picture of the soldier makes it better (and more expensive) as well imho. Flak-units are not so popular, Panzer are very popular, SS very expensive, Ostvölkerunits are loved by some. Interesting battles are also a factor. I believe right now anything Normany, Bulge or Marked Garden for example are very popular while Stalingrad and others seem to be going a bit down ... well, just my impression.

What I keep an eye on: are the stamps correct (particularly the ones which confirm the awards and pictures), is it a Zweitschrift or denazified (both things make it less valuable, though I don't really understand why in case of the denazification). Something I personally really don't like: missing pages!
What I do like: lots of entries, because that gives you a good basis for research.

      ... my 2 cents ...

Thanks for your kind advice guys.

Ive made a commitment to purchase this from Dave, so it should be in my collection quite soon.

any opinions on this? I'd like some comments from the more experienced document collectors. Thanks.

                MILITARY:

If your refering to the SS Soldbuch you recently purchased found here....

                http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=384263

...I will once again state that Romer's SS Soldbuch was previously in my personal collection (I sold it probably close to 10 years ago now) and it is a 100% original and unaltered SS Soldbuch that you can have full confidence in. Do please ask "SScrooge" to post more scans of this Soldbuch for all to critique / examine...for an "entry level" SS Soldbuch, you will not be disappointed with what is offered here...

                  Dear Hundestaffel,

Being new to Soldbuch and documents,
the reasonf or my post was that i wanted to know why certain divisions or units commanded a higher price and why so?

I have no doubt that the one by Sscooge is 100% good.

                  Thank you Hundestaffel.

As the title of this thread ends in "Some Advice", the best advice would be to honor one's original purchase committment or run the risk of looking like a Major League Wanker.

At any rate, whoever has purchased this Soldbuch can be assured of an unquestionable and unaltered late war issued SS Soldbuch (note that Romer's Soldbuch photo was taken before his shoulder boards were added to his SS uniform).
