    Earliest LW Abschussmeldung?

I have been trying to determine approximately when the O.K.L. (High Command of the Luftwaffe) began issuing Abschussmeldungen (victory confirmation certificates). My friend and fellow forum member Jeremy allowed me to post this certificate that was issued to Feldwebel Heinz Schmidt of the 4./J.G. 52 on 18 March 1942 for a victory he claimed on 3 July 1941.

    Schmidt

I am interested in knowing if anyone has any earlier examples, specifically from the 1940 campaign in the West.

    Barry:

Our mutual Canadian friend has some very comprehensive NJG 1 "Kill Reports" to include these two official kills from Helmut Lent (Lent's 11th and 13th Night Kills) which contain the Abschussmeldungen:

    # 11 - 30.6.1941 1:40 Stirling 6./NJG 1 10km S Wesermaunde Stirling I (N6001) “MG-?” of 7 Sqn, RAF flown by S/L WTC Searle

    # 13 - 4.7.1941 0:34 Wellington 4./NJG 1 Exloo Wellington IC (R1492) “GR-?” of 301 Sqn, RAF

      No longer in my collection.

Flugbuch and photos to Hauptmann Eduard Schröder.
      JG.53 - NJG.3

During the Battle of Britian 1940 he shot down a Spitfire.
The claim was confirmed by the RLM in Berlin.

The confirmation was glued into his Flugbuch.

Research I did showed that it was a Hurricane and that the pilot was able to make a belly landing.

          Hi,

I have the official and a original signed Abschussmeldung (with some other documents to do with this Abschuss) of Obfw Paul Gildner and Bordfunker Müller from 8 april 1941 concerning the downing of Whitley T4145 at Waterhuizen not far from my hometown killing all but one of the crew - the story on this Whitley is written in the After the battle series number 60 if I am not mistaken.

Another set I have are from the famous Helmut Lent, concerning a Hampden he shot down on 13 july 1941 0.55 hours near Veendam not far from my home.
His Bordfunker (again Müller). One day I would like to write a thread on both my sets as they are really interesting to read and tell about.

Anyhow good luck with your quest on the earliest Abschussmeldungen !

The earliest Abschussmeldung I have seen are NJG examples from 1941, I would imagine that any examples from 1940 in the west would command a very high price indeed.

Whilst on the subject of Abschussmeldungen, I recently posted the text below in a thread titled 'Abschussmeldung Question' here on WAF, to which I have unfortunatly received no replies at all as of yet:

I have 2 NJG1 Abschussmeldungen from 1941 in my collection. I think the reports are complete however, I have seen over the past few years similar Abschussmeldungen but in slightly different compilation.

Both of my Abschussmeldungem consist of the following:

Gefechtbericht - Signed by the claimant.
Zeugenbericht - Signed by the witness.
Abschussmeldung - Signed by the claimant.
Stellungnahme - Signed by the Staffelkapitain
Stellungnahme - Signed by the Gruppenkommandeur

Additionally, one of the reports also contains 2 witness reports from Lufwaffe ground personnel.

I have also seen examples where the compilation differs from the above:

No Stellungnahme signed by the Staffelkapitain.
Gefechtbericht, Zeugenbericht & Abschussmeldung signed F.d. R. I.V. by the Staffelkapitain and not the crew (and the Stellungnahme signed by the Staffelkapitain is also absent)

This leads myself to think that numerous copies of each Abschussmeldung were made however, I can find very little detailed information on these documents.

Any collector knowledge or information on existing examples in collections which can shed a little light on the formats and differing compilation of these documents will be very well received indeed.

              Thank you in anticipation.

If anyone can help with this request it really will be very well received indeed.

              Regards Richard.
Always looking for Luftwaffe Kampfflieger related document groups. In particular anything to Kampfgeschwader 2.
