Soldbuch question

I have a question related to Soldbücher:
The units entered in a Soldbuch, are you be able to know from what time he was with that unit, and for how long, and when he changed to another unit?
Especially with units from 1944/1945, are you be able to know whether they where captured in 1944 or whether they belonged to one of these soldiers that still fought in 1945 after the division was reformed?

How and where can you see that?

Army and SS Soldbücher are difficult to determine when a soldier was transferred to and from a unit....the only way to try and confirm this is by examining every page and entry and try and build up a time line.

CIS on your Soldbuch!

That way you can build the big picture....examine kit issues, date and unit on page 6, 7 and 8. Of course when was he on leave, what unit was he with then. Security checks on page 14-15. Page 20-21 holds pay entries from a unit other than his own, however you could see where these units were n relation to his own. The nummer der Kriegsstammrolle in some instances holds a year but nothing more......

Basically just make a note of every single date and the unit that he was with at that time. Incidentally this is exactly what intelligance officers did during the war and explained n the Allied publication "Exploiting German documents"

Recently I bought a penal soldiers Soldbuch and all I can say is he was with this unit in 1943-44...no idea when as he had no kit issues or leaves etc. whilst there!

Of course post the pages if you wish and we can try and decipher it!
