    Rossowka

    I have a KIA wehrpass which states that the soldier was killed or burried at 'Rossowka'. I have not been able to find this area or town. However I have just found a cemetary shown on this thread that shows a cemetary called Rossoschka (Poccowka) ! Could these be the same place as in my wehrpass ?? I know the Germans used different names and spellings..
    I do not have the pass to hand, but if anyone is interested I will dig it out later on tonight when I get home..

    Yes Richard, that should be Rossoschka. It's the largest cemetary in the Stalingrad area. Most likely your man was killed end of '42 - 1943?

      It is Rossoschka, I've photos of the cemetery

      My Soldier (Adam Weinberger) is buried there also.

        Name: Schuller (Never been able to work out the first name, something like Frinprinz ??)

            In 'English' that place would be called Rossovka.

            However, given his unit and date of death I would put my house on it being Bossowka (Bossovka). This is a small village on the northern flank of the German attempt to relieve the Cherkassy pocket.

                  Gary, thanks for that...(did you once have this pass ?? I have bought a few off you a few years back ..) It all ties up..so it must be Bossowka..are there any cemetaries in that area or can anyone tell me if this guy has a known grave ??

                            I am sure Gary will answer your question, but I would hazard a guess that the maps are from:

                            Stoves, Rolf O. G. 1. Panzer-Division 1935-1945: Chronik einer der drei Stamm-Divisionen der deutschen Panzerwaffe. Bad Nauheim: Verlag Hans-Henning Podzun, 1961. Hb. Dj. 882p. Illus. Maps. Tables. Appendices. Bibliography. Index (names).

                            At least those same maps are in my copy.

                              Cheers Larry. Im actually thinking of buying some of the German print books just for their maps. My knowledge of German in nil, basically the basic terms for the hobby.
