    Soldbuchs with CCC Awards

I had the pleasure of meeting Tom Durante at the SOS this year and bought a copy of his well written book. I mentioned to Tom that I would send some scans of my three Soldbuchs that had the entry for the Nahkampfspange. I figured I would share these with everyone.

The first is for Oberfeldwebel Hans Koch who served with several infantry units and was awarded the Nahkampfspange in Bronze, which he wears in the photo.

Here is one of my favorites. A long-serving LAH member, Walter Fielder, who received the Nahkampfspange in Bronze and was killed in September 1944 as the Leibstandarte withdrew from France. Notice that the LAH cufftitle can be seen in the photo, the only time I have ever seen this. This Soldbuch was a GI battlefield pick-up.

Last, but not least, is the Soldbuch of Ritterkreuztraeger Max Vetter, who was awarded the Nahkampfspange in Bronze in March 1944 and the Nahkampfspange in Silver in October 1944 while serving with Grenadier Regiment 380 in Russia. Unfortunately, he signed over his Nahkampfspange in the photo, but if you look hard, you can see it. I visited Max several times in Freudenstadt Germany and have included a photo of him in his later years.

                              Good God, Bary

That Aufklärungs-Abteilung KIA LSSAH Soldbuch is just incredible. This is the first time I have ever seen a cufftitle being worn in a Soldbuch photo as well. And the Vetter book... RK and CCC in silber!

                              Outstanding. Simply outstanding!!!
