    Volksbund website

    Whenever i try to do a search for a KIA on the Volksbund site it only seems to search the WW1 database and not the WW2 one. Can someone please shed some light on how to do this. I know its a pathetic request

    Hi Jonathon,

    Sorry, did get your PM but forgot to answer it!

    Some people are not familiar with German however....not sure how yours is?

    On the Gräbersuch page: http://www.volksbund.de/graebersuche/content_suche.asp

    Nachname - Surname
    Vorname - Forename
    Geburtsdatum - Date of birth. This can be entred as the actual date, just as the year or left blank.
    Todes/Vermisstendatum - Death or missing date. Again this can be entred as the date of birth.
    Geburtsort - Place of birth....can be left blank as this might not be known anyway!

    When entering dates however, 19.12.1944 or 01.07.1944 (2 numbers per day and month!) or simply 12.1944...the month and year!

    You will have to enter your personal details so that a cookie can be left on your PC.....do not click back in your browser at any time or you could end up putting your details back in again! Use the links provided......

      Cheers Ian. My German is shall we say, negligible at the least. Ive successfully done a WW2 search before but of late all im getting is WW1 hits. Thanks for the reply and ill pereserve with the searches.

        Never had any problem with the site......if you are entereing a name, could it be that there was no one with that name during WWII and yes, only WWI are mentioned?

        Try a simple search for Schmidt, Helmut.....you should get 445 hits and the first page is all WWII!
