Welcome to the WAF.
Its difficult to ascertain, certainly harder than in the field of medals but yet again there are less forgeries. What tends to get faked are entries into the unit page and the award pages to make the WP more attractive to the prospective buyer. I tend to look out for drastically different styles of Stutterlin handwriting, that said it was common for many different clerks to fill in the WP. Another indicator might be the type of pen that has been used, ive seen some faked entries written in ball point pen that were obviously faked. The whole WP is very difficult to fake, its those one line entries that stick out that sometimes indicate a forgery.

ID documents are so complex that it is almost like if you have to ask how to spot a fake, then you shouldn't buy them in the first place.
Just think of the comparison to current day civilian IDs - there is a strong market in fake IDs and that is because they are often good enough to fool most people. It takes someone who is trained and handles them every day to spot the good fakes.
The good news is that you can get a fair amount of training through reading this forum, but you will still have to handle a lot of Wehrpasses and Soldbuch before you can spot even the average fakes. For spotting the better than average fakes, you need to be proficient in Suetterlin.
Another tip - make friends with a knowledgeable collector and never assume any dealer won't stick you with a faked document.
