    Soldbuch Afrika help needed

Today I bought a Africa Soldbuch. There are a few questions that I have.
First of all is the page with the man's photo. I never saw a Soldbuch with text on the inside cover behind the photo. Is this good or bad. Second he was in Africa as seen on page 22. First of all he served with Artillerie-Ersatz-Regiment 112 this unit was not in Africa. The second unit he served with was s. Art. Abt. 997 and this unit never saw Africa either. And the last unit was s. Art. Abt. 1193 and any info about this unit I can not find on the internet. So my question is was this last unit in Africa?. When I looked a the photo I saw a Edelweiss on the man's arm so he must be with a Gebirgsjager unit. So I have many questions any help would be very nice.

yes, photo looks fine to me.
He arrived in Afrika december 1941.
The entries look good, but there is no afrika unit listed on page 4 for whatever reason.
Someone can tell you what the feldpost numbers correlate to (on the stamps for his afrika awards).
That should shed some light on his unit in Afrika.
It certainly appears he was with an artillery unit in Afrika, probably a motorised one.

What I find interested is that he appears to be wearing his Italo-Afrika medal ribbon through his buttonhole, which is very unusual !
First time I have seen it worn like that.

The reason you have "writing" on the inside of the Soldbuch cover is because the cover is actually a replacement......not particularly uncommon!

To the Afrika problem.........The Italian Commemoratice Medal entry on page 22 (actually seen being worn in the photo) also the date of arrival in Africa has the stamp for FP Nr. 03542.

          (Mobilmachung-1.1.1940) Kolonne Bau-Bataillon 138,
          (2.1.1940-27.4.1940) gestrichen,
          (1.2.1941-11.7.1941) Stab u. 1.-2. Batterie Artillerie-Abteilung 361,
          (12.7.1941-26.1.1942) Stab u. 1.-3. Batterie Artillerie-Abteilung 361,
          (27.1.1942-14.7.1942) Stab I u. 1.-3. Batterie Artillerie-Regiment 190,
          (25.1.1943-31.7.1943) gestrichen, (Tunis),

          Afrika-Artillerie-Abteilung 361

Formed 1.6.1941 from former members of the Foreign Legion (Fremdenlegionären) : Stab and 1. Batterie in Baumholder, Wehrkreis XII; 2.
and 3. in Rheine, Wehrkreis VI; dem Afrika-Regiment 361 zugeteilt; wurde 1.8.1942 became I./Artillerie-Regiment 190.

Under: Army troops: 1.4.1942 90. leichte Afrika-Division: Africa, Tunisia
          Replacement: z. b. V. Wesel, Wehrkreis VI

Also the Gebirgsjaeger unit appears to be one of his replacement units............Geb.Art.Ers.Abt. 111.....however that was early, by 1944 when the photo was added he must have been in that same Ersatz unit!?!?!?!

You will have to analyse every page to see what is what now as for whatever reaon his unit was not entered on page 4.......probably as he was not there for long, however he should have been there for 6 months to qualify for the Afrika cufftitle!

Are there any entries on page 3? Soemtimes when the cover is replaced other pages can be replaced as well if they are full or even lose! Even Soldbuecher had field repairs!

very nice, I love the Kreigslazarett Tripolis/Tobruk stamp and how it mentions he was moved on via a hosptial ship.

Page 3 shows the unit 3/HKAA 533 - 3 Batterie, Heeres Küsten Artillerie Abteilung 533....can not find much about it but it did appear to have served in Africa! I formed I. Abteilung, Artillerie Regiment Afrika in October 1942.

Obviously shipped out of Afrika due to illness in July 1942.....thus fulfilling the criteria for the Afrika cufftitle.

Page 15 shows a security check on 1.12.1943 from 1 Batterie, Gebirgs Artillerie Regiment 112, part of 3 Gebirgs Division in south Russia......the Gebirgs connection!

Page 20 bears the entry for Wehrsold on 10.12.1941 in Lira from FP Nr. 45298 Frontleitstelle Brindisi, also an entry I have never seen before that he arrived in back on European soil on 11.8.1942!!!!!!

Page 21 states he received 210 days Africa pay from 14.12.1941-11.7.1942.

                              Heeres-Artillerie-Abt. 1193
Formed 02.12.1943 by AOK 19 in southern France from V. (schwere) Abt. (stationary) (previously V./242 with 13.-15. Bttr.), since 31.01.1944 motorized.
Under: Heerestruppe: AOK 19 (Mediterranean), June 1944 Normandy (Caen), 1944/45 AOK 15 Ardennes, Roer.
                              Replacements: 54 Oppeln, Wehrkreis VIII.

Hmmm...... This sure doesn't look like Africa to me.
