    WH. ID disc, help please.-

    Hi folkes,

    I would like to ask your help on this ID I have and id like to know that what unit is it or division. Thank you.

    2. Kp./Kraftfahr-Ersatz-Abteilung 45
    Formed 01.04.40 in Enns (Wehrkreis XVII) from 5.-7.Kp./Kraftfahr-Ers.Abt. 17. Transferred to St. Pölten in June 1940. Disbanded in September 1942. Subordinated to Division 177.

        No, that's certainly true. However the above is an elementary-level tag, degree of difficulty off the 2-meter board about 1.1. The majority of collectors, especially those from the "internet generation", do not want to do their own research (if it can be called that) and want someone else to do it for them. In this case, all that's needed is a quick visit to any one of several books or internet sites that provide the wartime German military abbreviations and definitions. Item 3 in my job description here is to try and stimulate an interest in history and research self-reliance among the membership. IMO, militaria collecting should be the provenence of history buffs with the financial motive a distant second. If I were you, I would want to know all I could about the unit concerned, to the point of buying or borrowing books in German and English that might have information about it. Then I would compose a one-page treatise giving the known history of the unit and this would accompany the Erkennungsmarke when the time comes to sell it.
