I stumbled across this thread while researching a man who flew with 5./MSG 1. One anomaly I noticed is that both the document groupings referenced here include certificates for the Reconnaissance Clasp but my man, who flew with 5./MSG 1 from summer 1943 to March 1945, was awarded the Bomber Clasp in Gold with 200 Hanger in November 1944. He had transferred from the bomber arm in 1943 having already been awarded the Ehrenpokal, Spange in Gold and DKiG but my understanding is that any further award should reflect the branch in which he currently served - this is certainly the case for the documents in my collection from other airmen who transferred across service arms.

          Best wishes
          Tim O.

                ..

                Nice group Tim!!

You are correct spangle awards should reflect the branch they were attached to I.e. Bomber, recon. Etc..

So it is interesting that at least one MSG man was awarded a Bomber Clasp while serving and others were awarded Recce Clasps!

                  Best wishes
