    Great Link On German Abbreviations

    Hi,

Here's a great link on WW2 German abbreviations:

    http://niehorster.orbat.com/011_germany/_abbr-army.htm

    Hope it's helpful!

    Hello
Nice, helpfully list. Thanks for sharing the link.

But attention, there are some mistakes in it.
(for example: AA ist not antiaircraft !!! It is Aufklärungs Abteilung = Recce bataillon)

    Here another list:

      In Dr. Niehorster's list:

      AA – antiaircraft

The "-" (dash) signifies that it is an English abbreviation. He should not have included it in a list of German abbreviations. Aufklärungsabteilung was almost always abbreviated as Aufkl.Abt. Only rarely was "AA" used as the abbreviation for Aufklärungsabteilung.

That right. It is tactical awkwardly to put a english abbreviation into a german list.

But thats only one example. There are much others like BdE (Befehlshaber der Ersatzarmee) it means Befehlshaber des Ersatzheeres. (Not Ersatzarmee)

Yes, I must say I am rather surprised. Dr. Niehorster is usually accurate to a fault in his research. It may be that he copied the abbreviations from someone else's list, or perhaps he had someone else construct it. But still, that's no excuse. He should have checked it.
