Wow Served in the invasions of Poland and France, and a Stalingrad survivor to boot! Impressive list of awards, too. What's that last one that has been crossed out? I'm on a laptop with a small screen - is it a Nahkampfspange in bronze? It's very hard to make out...

                    Very, very nice my friend
                    Thanks for posting the scans.

                      Hi PZV,

Again a great combat soldier's booklet you are showing here.

Rob, looking at a larger screen here.....yes it is the Nahkampfspange in Bronze.

                      yours

                        FHH Wehrpass

yes, it is the Nahkampfspange in Bronze. I got this Wehrpass years ago and unfortunately there was nothing else with it but was still very happy to get it! He did go through a lot of action and it is often interesting speaking with veterans, as some seemed to have had a charmed life, coming through without a scratch, but this is the exception of course.

Well, it's a great one for sure. You're very lucky that you live in Germany, as meeting these veterans - speaking with them and documenting their stories - is just as rewarding as owning the various documents and IDs we collect. You have an amazing collection and I thank you for sharing it with us.

Rob, thanks but sadly the veterans are rapidly declining in numbers and many veterans that I knew have long since passed away. We try to save what the relatives often would destroy or throw away, as military history here is somewhat looked down on.
