He was discharged by the French Occupation Army in Germany (Saarland area).
In the German army he was a private 1st class (Obergefreiter)
The only date I can see is 1949.

Also, he was a locksmith (Schlosser), and upon discharge, he received a suit, pair of shoes, 1 pair socks, 1 shirt of some sort, 1 pair underwear. No undershirt, that's lined through.Unless it was nighttime, or the weather was bad, and you were running out of gas - then it was a sweaty nightmare, like a monkey f*ing a skunk.
