    Very Rare Seaman travel/ID issued to a civilian working as a Stewart on the General Von Steuben and the Battleship Scharnhorst, reflects various ports of entry and custom stamps from counties visited - Great document on two famous III Reich War ships.

          Nice booklet indeed but not that very rare as mentioned in your thread.

          Don't know what two famous III Reich War ships you mention or are thinking about..........as both were liners..........

          - Passagierturbinen Schiff / Ocean Liner "Scharnhorst" - became the japanese escort carrier "Shinyo", and was sunk by an american submarine.

          - Ocean Liner / german luxury liner ex "München" - the "General Von Steuben" - later shortened to "Steuben".
          Same tragic fate as the "Wilhelm Gustloff" although not as much known as the "Wilhelm Gustloff" she was also sunk by a russian submarine while transporting wounded german soldiers and refugees.

          So by no way the german battle ship "Scharnhorst" !!!!
          - launched: 3.October 1936.
          - Commissioned: 7.January 1939.
          - First CO. Kapitän zur See Otto Ciliax.
          This "Scharnhorst" never had a Kapitän Stein on board.....not even in 1937 !!!

          But your man served before the war on two interesting german ships, both later on sunk by an enemy submarine.
