    FP Number 14148, April 1943
    FP Number 08347, June 1942

    Fp. 14148 = 3. kp.Br. Bau-Btl. 683
    Fp. 08347 = 4. Kp. Kradschutz. Btl. 61
Fp. L30064 = Stab. Res. Flak-Abt. 802 (under the Rgt. 100 in Bretagne)
Fp. L41431 = III. Abtl. Lg. Nachr. Rgt. Westfrankreich (the letter after are for smaller assignement in this unit)

      Bill -

      FpN 08347 (Jun 42): 4.Kp.Kradschtz.Btl.61. 4th Co./Motorcycle Battalion 61 (motorcycle infantry troops).
      FpN 14148 (Apr 43): 3.Kp.Br.Bau-Btl.683. 3rd Co./Bridge Construction Battalion 683.
FpN L 30064 (Jun 42): Stab Res.Flak-Abtl.802. HQ and staff of Reserve Antiaircraft Battalion 802.
FpN L 41431A (Dec 41): Stab III.Abtl.Lg.Nachr.Rgt.Westfrankreich. HQ and staff of the III. Detachment (=Battalion) of Luftwaffe Signals Regiment West France.
FpN L 41431B (Dec 41): Stab III.Abtl.Lg.Nachr.Rgt.Westfrankreich. Ditto the above, only this was probably one of the company-sized components under the Regiment’s III. Abteilung.

Someone else jumped in here while I was putting this together, so now you have two replies.

FP Nr L 41431: III. Abteilung Luftgau-Nachrichten-Regiment Westfrankreich,

          The suffix denote:

          A - Stab III. Abteilung
          B - 9 Kp.
          C - 10 Kp.
          D - 11 Kp.
          E - 12 Kp.

I do not know the structure of III. Abteilung so 9-12 Kp. may be incorrect but the suffix' denote Stab as "A" and each further letter a Kompanie within that Bataillon/Abteilung.

Normally these are A-E only unless the unit has larger Battalions or it is a collection of FP Nr. identifying units in a town/city etc.

Many if not most of the Luftnachrichten units had a very irregular organizational structure. The structure was based on function and changed frequently. In December 1941, III. Abt. of Luftgau-Nachr.Rgt. W-F was a Flugmelde Abteilung. Subordinated to it at that time could have been any of the Flugmelde-Kpn. that belonged to the Regiment, which had a total of 7 Abteilungen (I thru VI and z.b.V.) and 27 numbered Kpn. Not all of these 27 Kpn. were Flugmelde, but more than half were (perhaps 18 or 19 of the 27). In 1941, 9.(Flugm.)/W-F and 12.(Flugm.)/W-F were both in the Paris area. The other Flugmelde-Kpn. were deployed along the Channel coast, in Normandy, Brittany and along the coast of the Bay of Biscay.

In this rather unusual case, it appears that the "B" suffix may indeed be for 9. (Flugm.) Kp. That is worked out this way is the exception rather than the rule for these huge Luftwaffe signals regiments. At peak strength, Lg.Nachr.Rgt. W-F had some 6,300 personnel.
