    Soldbuch help please - my neighbor's looking for info on his father

    Hello folks,

    My neighbor brought over his fathers Soldbuch (Heinrich Beeh) and asked if I could help tell him where his father fought, and where he's buried. He was called up in 1945, and after dying his own civilian trousers as no service ones were available, reported for duty. He was killed in 1945, after losing a leg.

    Any info would be appreciated - he knows very little about his dad's service. Please help if you can.

          Hello,

          He was called up at the age of 42 in January 1945 and joined a lorry drivingschool unit.
          From that unit he was dicharged on April 27 1945 and send home.
          So if he was killed it was at the very end of the war (German surrender is May 8 1945) but not in military service.
          It easly can be that he run in to an advancing allied unit that took a shot at him, most likely he was still in uniform, it happened a lot in the final days of the war.

          A similar event happened to my greatgrandfather and three of his friends they escaped from there forced labor camp and walked right in to an US tank, that immediatly opened fire, my greatgrandfather lost his right leg, another friend lost his left leg, another one an arm and one was extreemly unlucky to be killed on the day of his liberation.
          Allied soldiers sure were trigger happy in Germany 1945, who can blame them they also didn't want to be killed at the end of the war.

            Peter, that's excellent, thank you. My neighbor remembers he was wounded twice, as he came home to Stuttgart briefly before going back. He died of wounds in captivity, probably by the French since his Mom paid a French authority for some type of memorial upkeep for years.

            Is there any way to find out where he is buried? s/f Robert

              To research German kia soldiers you can use this website: www.volkenbund.de

              This is what I found:

              - Beeh Heinrich
              Soldier
              Born on 22.May.1905 in Essingen
              Died on 03.April.1946 in St Medard en Jalles (France)
              Now buried in the German warcemetery of Berneuil (France) in block number 4 row 23 grave 1148.

              I suppose that is the one you are searching for.

                    Napalm, he'll be extremely interested. I'll print the article for him - this is a very nice level of support for this request. He thought he'd died in 1945, so this will also be news for him.
