Hi Paul,

That is an excellent Latvian Soldbuch you have. On the back of the photo in post 12 the writing translates as "Despite being far away from home..." probably because of the sign posts on the front of the picture.Dunaberg or Daugavapils which appears on the lower sign is Latvia's second largest city which I suppose does show that he is far from home. The writing also comes from a line in the Latvian marching song-"Paliec Sveiks, mans mazais draugs"(farewell my little friend). The legionnaire's home town of Vaidava is located in the Latvian province of Vidzeme in north-west Latvia. As regards to researching this legionnaire you could try either the Latvian War Museum in Riga or the Latvian State Archives.
