    His profession must have had something to do with farming (Landwirt........). His father was a farmer as well.

      = agricultural administrator or
      estate manager

          Don't know if I see it right, but this is what I can make out of it.

          - S.A. Sportabzeichen.
          - Reiterschein.
          - Freischwimmer.
          - Reitersportabzeichen in Bronze.

          (Reiterschein also in combination with the Reiterzug entry).

            Well you don't see soldiers on horse-back that often and your man was trained all the way for it.

            "für Inf. Reiterzug I.R.88, Hanau 10.7.37".
            "3.11.37 - 7.2.41 R.Z. (Reiterzug) I.R.88 Stabskompanie".

            and he was in Dijon - France on a horse riding school.
