    Mauthausen dog tag?

    Hi,

I have the chance to purchase an identification disc and since I have no knowledge of these things, I thought I'd ask some of my fellow collectors.
The tag has the following inscription on it:
    711 - Waffen SS - T.STUBA. KL.MAUTHAUSEN/G

Any thoughts or comments on this tag would be appreciated.

You need to post a picture of the tag, otherwise no one here can advise about the authentity. There are both authentic and very good fakes available - so a picture is a must in this case.

Hmm, difficult to say - the picture is bit unsharp (sorry to complain). It looks almost like mine ( which I'm sure about). I belive 95 % ok. the number is also pretty close to mine ( 725) - as far as I remember some 30 with subsequent numbers were recovered 2-3 years ago. The fakes I have seen were almost perfect - but unfortunately I don't have any reference - so can't compare to fake but only to a good one in my collection.
        Regards
        Al

          Dog tag

          Hi Al,

Thanks for the reply. I was told this tag was unissued and found in an oil paper type packing. Perhaps this is one of those thirty tags that were recovered? If it is the real deal, any idea on what a fair price would be for it? Would a Concentration Camp guards tag have the name of the camp on it like this one does? As I said I'm not too knowledgeable on identification discs.

            Hi guys,

I took the liberty to edit the picture a bit, perhaps this one will help you more than the original one.

            Cheers,

            Al

And another version, a bit more contrast added to it.

              Cheers,

Well, I think it is ok. Location names are pretty common on KZ tags ( well if the word common is a good one in case of KZ tags).
At least for Auschwitz, Lublin, Stutthof, Oranienburg, Mauthausen, Gusen, Buchenwald and Neuengamme.
I belive this one is worth 200+ Euro.

                    Identification disc

                    Hi Al,

In an earlier reply you said that about thirty of these identification discs were found two or three years ago. Do you know where they were found and who found them?
