Dogtag, what is it ??

Hi,

I just recieved this Dogtag together with a set of Polizei Vehicle ID papers.

The papers are no problem identifying but this disc has puzzled me.

What does the "H.L." stand for?

anyone able to help me?

I belive these tags are like a riddle. I have HL tags 4126,4127 and 4128, but never met anybody who would explain these codes.

The thread mentions "Heimat Lazarette". I Googled my guesses: Heereslazarette provided 2 results, and Hauptlazarett brought 4 results; "heimatlazarette" rendered 20 results.

I guess "Heimatlazarette" wins.

Well, I'm also supporting Haupt Liste version. The only problem is that none of the people I know has got this part of Haupt Liste. Actually I don't know if this fragment of the liste exists in any of the archives. Untill last year when the second edition of J.Hoidal's book was published together with some of the MOB codes, an access to MOB lists was rather limited (probably except FJ codes which were bit more popular)
I belive that the only chance to solve the mystery would be trying to find a SB/WP with such a tag indicated. BTW - does the documents you've got with this tag say anything about the unit this guy served?

I have several documents with this group. They differ a bit as to the unit.

-Car papers issued by "Technische Polizeischule Berlin"
-Notice from sept.44 that the vehicle was an "Einsatz KFZ" issued by Polizeischule in Fraustadt.
-Transfer papers from April.45 that the vehicle had to be moved to Drewitz as part of the 214 Infantery Div.
-Mentioning of Feldpostnumber 56765 (is this 214 Inf.Div. ? )

So when and where does the Tag come into the story ? .. I don't know.

So not possible at this point to identify the Erkenningsmarke, other then that it is probably a "Hauptliste" number.

Hopefully someone, someday, will find this Hauptliste.
