Very nice Rob,
This is indeed a very nice grouping and I'm very happy to see it, also because the Holland Airlandings are my main intrest. 12./IR16 was involved in capturing Waalhaven Airbase and involved at the Noordereiland/Willemsbrug (Rotterdam) fightings supporting 10. and 11./IR16 and 11./Fjr1(Kerfin).

Known 12./IR16 KIA in Holland are: Lt. Arnold Schöneboom, Uffz. Josef Michl and Gfr. Heinrich Frühling.

Thanks for the link, Ypenburg. It's a unit with a very interesting history that you don't hear about too often. From the research I have done and the date of the award, I believe my guy would have been awarded his EKII for action in Noordereiland (Rotterdam.)

His name is Focke Wiemers and he spent his wartime career with the 12. (M.G.)/ Inf. Rgt. 16 winning the EK II, IABiS, Ostmedaille, BWB, Krimschild and Romanian Medal Crusade Againt Bolchevismus.

Nice to see another member of this company.

Thanks for posting that picture! No doubt these two guys would have known each other and it's possible they may have even served alongside one another in the same zug As you said, it's great to see a face of another soldier from the same unit.

Most dealers have paperwork and groupings on offer. If you're after stuff to specific units then it's a matter of watching and waiting.

If your after things of this nature buy for the documents and not the medals that accompany groupings, as most of the time the are not original to the group but have been put together later to make it more attractive to the buyer

Ian is 100% correct.

After talking to other collectors, I'm fairly certain that at least 75% of the groupings you see (some will say that this is a conservative estimate) are put together. Unless you trust the source you are buying from, or you get it directly from the vet (even then you can't be 100% sure) never buy a grouping thinking that the medals are the ones the soldier actually wore on his uniform during the war. Chances are they're not.

I totally failed to mention that I added the medals to this grouping; I do that with all of my documents, Wehrp******228;******223;en and Soldb******252;cher (for display purposes.) Sorry if I mislead anyone - that was not my intention.

EDIT: if you go back and read my initial post, you will see that I said "This is a small document grouping to Unteroffizier Walter Westendorf" and like I said, I always add medals for aesthetics - no intention to mislead
