    RAD dogtag patterns

    Hi all,

I wonder if there was any strict rule that was to be obeyed when making Reichsarbeitsdienst dogtags?

I am asking because between my ground dug items are two tags from the same RAD Abteilung, but stroked using different patterns. The second doesn't use word "RAD".

    M16
    RAD 2/44 nnnn

    or

    M16/2/44/nnn/n

(where "n" is an integer from 0 to 9)

Is the latter of both a typical one or is it some piece of waste made by someone practising tag stroking?

    Regards,
    M.

    Hello,
After checking over 100 RAD Tags in my database, none are without either RAD or R.A.D. stempel, so based on my personal observations I would be leery in giving it the ok, however, many units had clerks were very liberal in interpreting the guidelines for EKM stamping, and without actually seeing the tag it is difficult to say definitively. Also unless the tag has been Stolen there is no need for nnnn's or xxxx's!

    Regards,
    Tony

    P.S. M16 is Meldeamt "Stolp"

      Hi Tony,

The tags weren't stolen, but dug from the ground by me and my friends. There were about 20 tags of the first pattern (typical) and only one of the second. Some of the tags didn't have soldier's number (not issued). I can't recall the exact number instead of "nnnn".

Watch this space as I'll post a picture next week. The strange EM is very dirty and having the oil-bath right now.

      Brgds,
      M.

        Hello

The "extra" Number could stand for a Flak unit.

        As an example:

        M48 RAD 4/86 334/1

        ==> Meldeamt Landsberg/Warthe.
        4. Abteilung in Gruppe 86
        1. Batterie / Flak Abteilung 334

Some RAD units were in charge with Flak.

        Sorry for the broken english......

        Best regards

        Fronti

          Hi,
I belive that the Stammrollenummer on RAD tags was stamped according to a number in the ID book ( whatever RAD used - I'm not an expert on this) - so some of the tags have simply a number and others have it slashed ( as it happens in the SB or WP). RAD Flak unit tag would need an extra number for Stammrolle - while all of the tags with slashed number - does not have it.
Analysing RAD tags from my collection ( I have so far gathered tags from 38 out of all 40 RAD Gaue) "slashed" numbering is typical for RAD units from Austria.
          All best
          Al
p.s. I'm looking for pictures or tags themselves of any uncommon RAD tags ( eg. RAD Lazarette, RAD Gau Kommando, etc)

            Gentlemen,

We have strayed from the path a bit. The matter of a "slashed Stammrollenummer" is a lessen one and not very exciting, I think.

            The most important question is:
Why this RAD dogtag doesn't have the word "RAD" stamped on it?
            Only "Meldeamt/Abt./Argeitsgruppe/Stamrollenummer"

            Regards,
            Michal

Id does not have a word RAD because is probably unissued and unfinished tag as many found in big hoards at RAD barracks. Apparently, contrary to what they say in Poland, German order wasn't so perfect - even during that times
