    Pz.Gren.Rgt.40 information.

I'm looking for Wehrpass from this unit, I have one belonging to an Obergefreiter in the 7. Kompanie, but the clerk was so laconic that into his battle page just notated "service in Russia with 17 Pz.Div.". I want to know something more as he was wounded on July 19th, 1.943 and killed in February 21st, 1.944 and nothing said on where it happen.

Thanks Ian, I study this link. I hate when the Wehrpass only notation is "In action with xxx unit in Russia"

Thanks Gary, I think he could be wounded into actions as reserve force in July 1.943 and killed while trying to relief the Cherkassy pocket in February 1.944, thanks, that's what I need.

Problems with those laconic entries is that you feel bad for not being able to know where he was and what he was doing to be wounded/killed.

            Angel,

He was probably wounded fighting around Izyum...there was a major Soviet attack at this time and reserves were drafted in to halt it.

The attempt to relieve the trrops in the Cherkassy pocket ended when they broke out on 17/18th February. The survivors reached the German forces holding a salient whose furthest point was Lysanka. 17. Pz Division held the right side of this salient.
In the following days the Soviets launched attacks against the salient in order to destroy it. It was during this that your man was killed.

            Cheers,
            Gary.

Here is his wound page, it's notated the name of the place where he was killed, any more info with this?

              Thanks Gary
