I would say page 1/2 was removed by the family member as that could well have been the only photo they had of him!

It is quite common for this to be done...unfortunately!

Even with Soldbuecher, some were removed during the war, in PoW camp and even today ...again by family!

With that said, it does detract from the overall value.....

      Hi all,

I realy thank you for your comments and the informations. I will probably value the Pass at 300 €.

Many thanks for helping me out here.

      Bests Jens

Stupid question, but shouldn't they have known which U-boat he was on when he died The book looks fine, but I just find it odd that they list him as dead, 28 March, 1943 "on a U-boat"

I have never seen a Wehrpa******223; that states what U-Boat the person was on....they always give the U-Flottille that the boat served with......then it is up to you to find out what boats were sunk on that day and if they match your Flotilla!

Even Soldb******252;cher may not even give you his U-Boat...depends with Feldpost number they use....again could well only be his Flottilla!

          /Ian

Very interesting. Any particular reason (or educated guess) why they didn't list which boat? Security measures, perhaps?

I believe I read that Sailors, U-boat crewmembers, etc. were instructed NOT to carry their SB's with them when out at sea (same went for LW personell when flying combat missions) Is that true?
