Reading this thread has been highly informative. Although I do not collect Kz items I do have a set of photo albums to a WSS medical officer. He was assigned to Kz Dachau sometime during the period when the TK division was forming there. Dachau is one of the locations which is noted in the albums as to where he was assigned. Interestingly during this time he wore both the Allegemine and WSS uniforms with the dual TK collar patches. Have always wondered if had actually been on the camp staff during that time as he did not serve with the TK division, but on leaving Dachau was assigned to Das Reich.

      Hello,

Thanks Polux for that information now we have an idea what type of numbers we are talking about on this thread. Very good information for collectors in the future!

      Edward,

In the Dachau area there was a ss officer training facility a part of the "officer-education" was on the topic of race and the "untermenschen-problem" for the study of this topic the KL Dachau was used and visited by every ss officer that was trained in the Dachau officer school.
SS-docters are a special bunch in nazi-Germany history. There was a different approach on the study of medicine specialy for ss physicians, preforming experiments with humans was considered "normal" in these dark times; also the "race-topic" was very important in there education. For this almost all the KL's were used by ss-physicians, Dachau is well known for its gruel experiments on humans during ww2.
Also the ss-tottenkopf division was formed in the Dachau ss-baraks most of them in 1939 were former ss-tottenkopf verbande members thus being involved in the early KL's all over Germany.
So it is very likely that some off the training your ss-physician did was done in the KL-Dachau.

To go back to the topic this thread was started with.

All the stamping of ss-totenkopf wachbatallions or sturmbanns in good an undoubtedly original wp's is from a similar and uniform type for all the KL's examples that were showed on this thread, I mean the unit stamps used on page 12 of wp's. This is a total different type than that used in the wp this thread started with also Gary T's opinion on posting #1.

Thanks Polux for sharing your collection on this forum, now we have the posibility to compare the stamps in these type of wp!

Polux do you have "feldpost numer" stamps in your wp's or sb's?

                Polux,

This is a true example of one hardcore SS KL guard, in my opinion. Spent the whole war in different KL's.

Thanks for sharing it with us.

                Cheers,

                Al

                  Thanks again Polux,

What a nice KL-guard wp: uniform photo, a real old sweat in the KL system, he even got awared for his KL-service! Super piece!!!
Is this a typical guard what a nasty SOB he most likely was!

In defence of the wp this thread started with the "lublin" stamp on posting #150 shows similarity with the "Auschwitz" stamp. Fair is fair.
This thread is realy instructive also for me.

Peter, thank you for the information. Interesting to know how close schools and depots used by the WSS were to some of the Kz's.

I have only one other Kz item which is another photo album. This one was actually put together by the camp staff of Kz Esterwegen during the mid-1930's when it was still run by the SA. I would think that any albums of the actual camps themselves would be scarce?

Just wondering about records from the Auschwitz Museum and his personnel file from the National Archives confirming his awards..

                        Hello Edward,

Just a bit of information, Esterwegen was also (like many camps) never an offical "Koncentrations Lager" , before 1940 it was a "Zuchthaus" and after 1940 "Strafgefangenlager" scince then it was dependant for its administration of KL Neuengamme.
Since 1923 there were camps and prisons in the Emsland area for forced (heavy) labor in the marshlands, when the nazi's came to power a few of them were taken over by the SA for interment/forced labor of political prisoners this were the first nazi controled prisoncamps that (and their system) later evolved in to the KL system al over occupied Europe. Other camps in the area were used during the war for POW,...etc.

All pictures taken in camps are scarce!!! And have a great historical value!!!

                          Peter-

What can you tell us about Schlackenwerth? It was a sub-camp of Flossenb******252;rg. I have a SS-Stammkart to a Allgemeine-SS Officer, and on the Stammkarte it lists him as being transferred to Kleiderkasse-SS Schlackenwerth on 2.March 1945, shortly before it was liberated by the US Army.

Interestingly enough, and keeping with the theory that the camps were controlled by the Waffen-SS, this Allgemeine-SS Obersturmf******252;hrer (who for the previous 2+ years was in the Stab of SS-HA VoMi) was made a SS-Oberscharf******252;hrer the same day as his posting to the camp!

                              Hello Rob,

Did find it in my book, its easier finding something when your awake.

It is indeed a subcamp of KL Flossenburg which was notorious for his heavy forced labor in the local stonequarry's.
Your ss-guard was probabily drafted in the camp so late because they needed the manpower to transfer the political prisoners to prevent them from being liberated. When the American army liberated the camp (23 april 1945) the only found about 100 prisoners, the other +/- 14000 where forced marched away. From this 14000, 4000 didn't survive this marsch of the dead, they died from fatigue or where shot beside the roads the were marching on.
So he was most certainly part of one of the most terrible times in this allready notorious KL.

                              Greetings, Peter

Thanks for your help. I've been able to uncover some basic information via web searches, and the "thirdreichinruins.com" website has a very detailed writeup with many great pictures. I will let you know if I turn up any further info.

                                Thanks!
