    KM helmet with ID

    Hi.

A good friend of mine has a KM helmet (m40 single decal) which is marked to one Matr. Ob. gefr Rentz, and with some numbering as well - O 8877/41 E.

Could someone shed some light on the numbering? I know that the O stands for Ostsee, but the other digits im not sure of.

Any information on this one is greatly appreciated

    O 8877/41 E

The O as you say is for Ostsee, the next four numbers i believe are his serial number, the 41 is the year of enlistment and the E is the trade specification. I would have to look this up in the books, but unfortunately don't have access to them at the moment, perhaps someone else could help. Maybe Engineering, not sure

      41 - 1941 - Year of Enlistment
      E - Erg******228;nzungs Marine Artillerist - Reserve/Supplementary seaman of Marine Artillery

Some additions (or complements ? I don`t know the right word. Sorry)

The complete number (O 8877/41 E) is the Stammrollennummer !

8877/41 means, that he was the 8877th Soldier, who was enlistet in 1941.

The first O is the shortform for Marinestation Ostsee.

Marinestation Ostsee is the complementary office of this soldier.

Thanx for splendid information on this helmet

Perhaps, in time, i'll be able to show a picture of the inscription.

            That's interesting.
I have a very similar number in my km helmet but it ends with a T. Can anyone tell me what this T means?
